Silent Hill : The Movie (2012) Silent Hill: The Movie is a 2012 found footage horror film based on the Silent Hill video game series. It was released in theaters and on DVD and Blu-ray by Screen Gems on January 3, 2012. Directed by Michael J. Bassett and written by both Michael Jett and Roger Avary, the film stars Adelaide Clemens as lead character Rose Da Silva who finds herself trapped inside a mysterious town called Silent Hill which is surrounded by fog that periodically erases any memory of those within it because of its dangerous supernatural events which seem to be triggered when someone "shines light into the darkness". On January 17, 2012, it was announced by Dimension Films, the film's distributor, that the film would be released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 3, 2012. The film has received negative reviews from "Film Review", with the review concluding that the movie "has an okay premise but falls short of what one would expect from a Silent Hill film" while "DVD Talk" criticized the film during its commentary track on its features for being too similar to other movies in the genre. However, author Jason Coleman wrote in "Fangoria" that "Silent Hill: The Movie features some truly horrifying moments. One-liners and jump scares are as much a part of the Silent Hill horror as avoiding monsters that look like they were pulled from a malevolent shadow factory." In 2004, she joins her boyfriend Harry Mason in Silent Hill after buying him a vintage car from an auction. She is attacked by a monster outside the house and wakes up in a prison cell with no recollection of how she got there or who she is. She later meets her friend Ladd Russo, who shows her a town named Silent Hill, which she accepts to go to with him after being told it is safe. After arriving at the town, Rose quickly realizes that surrounding area is being haunted by monsters, and she learns that it was no coincidence that she ended up there. When she manages to escape the town, she is confronted by a monster in an alleyway and fights it. Rose then moves into a hotel, where she meets her boss Walter Sullivan, who is convinced that she is an imposter when he finds out that Rose has been unable to hold a job in the past. He gives her a place to stay and pays her in food stamps. On arrival in Silent Hill, Rose also begins to have strange dreams of monsters after eating dinner with Walter at a diner. She is subsequently chased by these monsters throughout the city but manages to escape them by escaping through a subway tunnel. Rose joins Ladd in a local bar to tell him all that has happened to her. They are chased by monsters when they arrive at the bar, but Ladd manages to distract them with a gun while Rose escapes. When they return to the old hotel, Rose receives a package in the mail from Walter, containing money and a letter saying that he suspects she is an imposter. Rose then goes back outside the hotel after receiving another package from Walter, which contains tools for fixing broken phones which Ladd had asked her for.
